Q&A with the Founder
April Jones CPNP
Why did you create HealthQuest?
HealthQuest was born from my deep commitment to combat childhood obesity and disordered eating, which I've witnessed firsthand in my 20 years of experience in healthcare, particularly as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) in a childhood obesity clinic. I realized that traditional methods often fail to engage children effectively. HealthQuest aims to create a fun, gamified approach to educate children and families about healthy habits, empowering them to make better choices.
What is your experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner?
I have spent the last 10 years as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, working directly with children facing obesity and related health issues. In this role, I've not only provided clinical care but also engaged in education and advocacy for healthier lifestyles. My experience has given me valuable insights into the struggles families face and the importance of creating supportive environments for children.
3. How do you believe we can break the stigma surrounding weight?
Breaking the stigma around weight is crucial for fostering a healthier mindset in the next generation. I believe we can achieve this through education and open conversations. By using HealthQuest to promote understanding and compassion, we can help children and families shift their perspectives from shame and guilt to empowerment and positivity. It's essential to focus on health, not just weight, and to cultivate a supportive community that encourages healthy habits.
What motivated you to focus on Generation Alpha?
Generation Alpha is growing up in a unique environment, surrounded by technology and social media. I believe that by reaching them early with positive health messages through engaging apps like HealthQuest, we can influence their lifelong habits. This generation is tech-savvy, and using gamification and interactive learning will resonate with them, making health education more accessible and relatable.
How does your background lend credibility to HealthQuest?
With over 20 years in healthcare and a decade as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to HealthQuest. My clinical background equips me with insights into child development and health challenges, while my advocacy work ensures that our app reflects the needs of families. I have a proven track record of collaboration with healthcare providers, educators, and community organizations, which will be instrumental in scaling HealthQuest.
What are your long-term goals for HealthQuest?
My long-term goal for HealthQuest is to become a leading platform for childhood health education, fostering a community that supports healthy habits. I envision expanding our reach to schools, healthcare providers, and families, ensuring that every child has access to the resources they need to lead a healthy life. Ultimately, I aim to influence public health policies and practices to prioritize children’s health and wellness.
What kind of impact do you hope to achieve with HealthQuest?
I hope to see a measurable decrease in childhood obesity rates and improved mental health outcomes among children who engage with HealthQuest. My goal is to create a sustainable impact by fostering healthy habits early on, leading to healthier adults in the future. By leveraging technology and education, I believe we can create a healthier, more active generation.
How can investors support HealthQuest?
Investors can play a crucial role in helping HealthQuest scale and innovate. Their support will enable us to enhance our app’s features, expand our educational content, and reach more families in need. We seek partnerships that align with our mission and values, creating a network of advocates for children’s health. Together, we can drive meaningful change and build a healthier future.
